In memory of George Rea
It is in great sorrow that we report the passing of George Rea, this past October.
George, an SAMC member since 2007, was always there for the club by running all the raffles, with a smile on his face.
- Dodge Charger
- Red ’69 GT
- 69′ or 70′ Mach 1
- 2007 New Mustang GT Blue with White Stripes
- 2008 Shelby Blue Convertible
George won awards for his cars, including MCA shows in Washington and Arizona, and also a show in Reno in 2009. He had worked for Sacramento RT for approximately 15 years, driving almost all the routes, before recently retiring, at the age of 64. George formed friendships with other SAMC members, and was known for his dry wit, and was one who enjoyed his cigars.
David remembers; He did have another Mustang along with a 70 or 71 Charger. The Mustang was a 69 or 70 Mach 1. Only saw it once right after he bought it, when I asked him why he didn’t drive it, he said it needed the front end rebuilt, and that he wanted to get the Charger done first. He did get an award at the MCA show in Washington last year, but most of the shows he went to he just went for the experience. He joined the year after I did 2007. Bought a new 2007 Mustang GT, blue with white stripes, just like his Shelby.
Funny thing about his Shelby, he wanted to modify his GT with a Hurst shifter and a tuning upgrade but was worried about the warranty, so when he went to the dealer to talk about the upgrades he sees the Shelby on the lot. It has all the things he was looking for so he traded in the GT and bought the Shellby. I told him at the next meeting that most people just wash the car and empty the ash trays.
George will be sorely missed. Wherever you are – Punch it George!
